DNA results in skeleton case may come soon

Members of the Leavenworth Police Department have been told they soon should receive word regarding DNA testing being performed in an effort to identify skeletal remains that were found last year near the Missouri River.

Members of the Leavenworth Police Department have been told they soon should receive word regarding DNA testing being performed in an effort to identify skeletal remains that were found last year near the Missouri River.

The testing is being performed at a laboratory in Texas.

The remains were found Dec. 13 as Leavenworth Parks and Recreation Department personnel were clearing brush on a river embankment north of the Riverfront Community Center. The remains were found at the bottom of the embankment.

Police believe the remains are those of a caucasian man who was between 35-55 years of age. There were no obvious signs of foul play.
