Prince William Crime Solvers to cease operations Jan. 1

Prince William County Crime Solvers will cease operations on Jan. 1 after more than 35 years, according to a letter released by the board this week.

Crime Solvers is a nonprofit partner helping local police draw attention to unsolved cases and wanted fugitives.

Tip lines by phone and online will not be accessible beginning Jan. 1 and the social media accounts will be turned off, according to the letter dated Tuesday, Dec. 5.

The letter cited financial struggles and concerns about sustainability as the reasons for ending the local program.

“Crime prevention and deterrence is everyone’s responsibility,” the board wrote. “We hope the residents and business owners of Prince William County will remain committed to a safe community and work with the police department to keep the lines of communication open.”

In the last five years, Crime Solvers received 780 tips leading to 49 awards totalling nearly $15,000
