Sketch from the case file of the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs)

By Angie A. Gambill

The Tomahawk was contacted recently by the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) requesting information about a body that was found in 1977 in Johnson County. Forty years later the middle-age male remains unidentified. We are reaching out to our readers that lived in the area during this time that might have information helpful to the investigation.
Articles that appeared in The Tomahawk in December of 1977 recount a gruesome tale of some two dozen elderly men living in the abandoned buildings and grounds of the property known as the Shady Mountain Orchard. National agency sends out alert for missing Pulaski teen

Authorities are seeking the public’s help in locating a Science Hill teenager.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children issued an alert on Thursday regarding Mackenzie Herrin, 17, of Science Hill.

Herrin — described as a 5’7” white female with brown hair and green eyes — was last seen on October 30 of last year.

According to Karl Clinard, Public Affairs Officer for the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, Herrin has a history of running away from home. She is believed to be pregnant and staying with the child’s father.

“She’s three months shy of her 18th birthday,” Clinard said. “There is no foul play suspected but we are concerned that she is getting proper care for her baby.”

Sergeant Glen Bland is leading the investigation. Clinard noted that PCSO is working to locate Herrin after receiving a recent tip that she is still in this area.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Mackenzie Herrin
