A Putnam County attorney will attend his own preliminary hearing on Thursday, less than a week after he was arrested for the “receipt of child pornography.”

Attorney Stephen Craig Sluss stored several graphic videos of girls between the ages of 5 and 7 on his home computer, according to an affidavit filed in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia.

He operates a law office in Hurricane, and he served as a public official in Kanawha and Putnam County for years.

West Virginia State Police began an investigation after Chatstep, an online chatting service, reported a user to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

The user, “mckicker40,” was later determined to be Sluss, the affidavit states.

Sluss allegedly uploaded an explicit image of a teenage girl to the website on May 13. The website is free and anonymous, which makes “photo sharing very easy,” according to the affidavit.
