Months before she was killed in Atlanta, foster girl told police she was raped in Columbus – Columbus Ledger

A 17-year-old girl found shot to death in Atlanta on Sept. 21 told police three months before she went missing that she was raped at an apartment in north Columbus.

The Ledger-Enquirer received the 13-page case report after submitting an open records request to the Columbus Police Department.

According to the report, Denetta Franks was a ward of the state who was staying at the Holiday Inn Express, located at 7336 Bear Lane, until she went missing Sept. 7, never to return again. Her name was redacted out of the case report regarding the rape, but she was identified in another police report on the same incident obtained by the newspaper.

On Sept. 21, Franks’ body was found in Atlanta in the middle of Hortense Place Northwest near the intersection of Florence Place Northwest. The girl’s family recognized a facial reconstruction circulated by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children,

Ex-husband arrested in death of realtor who disappeared before Harvey

BAYTOWN – Police charged the ex-husband of a Houston-area realtor who was last seen before Hurricane Harvey in connection with her death.

Detectives discovered the body of missing Baytown woman Crystal McDowell two weeks after her disappearance. Her body was discovered Saturday, September 9 in a wooded area of west Chambers County, according to KHOU.

Steven McDowell, 44, is charged with murder.

The 37-year-old mother was last seen in Baytown on August 25, a day before Harvey reached Texas.

Texas EquuSearch looked for McDowell for more than two weeks, on foot and ATVS.

The sheriff said McDowell’s children are currently in the care of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, KHOU reports.

McDowell’s boyfriend, Paul Hargrave, said that she texted him about 24 hours before the catastrophic storm hit Houston.

She missed a meeting with a client Friday afternoon, and her uncle Jeff Walters reported her as a missing person Saturday.

All the while, Hurricane Harvey was wreaking

Ex-husband charged in death of woman who went missing just before Harvey

As soon as they heard she was missing, her friends knew.

Crystal McDowell wasn’t swamped in the storm. She hadn’t eloped. And she wasn’t lost.

“I knew immediately she was deceased,” said longtime friend Morgan Raimondi.

But it took police more than two weeks to confirm what the 37-year-old’s loved ones already feared.

On the heels of Hurricane Harvey’s devastation, search crews combed the Baytown area for four days before they finally made a gruesome discovery Saturday afternoon in a wooded area in western Chambers County.

Sheriff Brian Hawthorne did not release details about the Realtor and former stewardess’s suspected cause of death, but authorities Saturday charged her ex-husband, 44-year-old Steve McDowell, with murder.

“When Steve decided that if he couldn’t have her, nobody else could he also made the decision for her children, her family and her friends,” Raimondi said of the suspected killer, even before charges were finalized. “He took her away from all

Foul Play Suspected as Search Continues for Texas Mom Who Disappeared Right Before Hurricane Hit

The search for missing Texas mom Crystal McDowell continues nearly two weeks after she disappeared just before Hurricane Harvey’s landfall in the U.S., with authorities looking at the possibility of foul play.

Sheriff Brian C. Hawthorne of the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office in Texas tells PEOPLE exclusively, “I do believe there’s foul play involved and I don’t think that she has just decided to disappear and not contact anybody.”

According to authorities and news reports, the 37-year-old McDowell never arrived on Aug. 25 to pick up her two children, 5 and 8, from her ex-husband’s home in the Houston area after she left her boyfriend’s home earlier that day less than 18 miles away.

She was officially reported as a missing person the next day — as Hurricane Harvey, which made landfall in Texas late on Aug. 25, began drowning Houston.

Man indicted in Chattanooga for pornography charges takes his life before arrest

A man recently indicted in Chattanooga’s U.S. District Court for possessing child pornography killed himself Tuesday when authorities went to arrest him.

Phillip Andrew Forrester shot himself at his mother’s house in Tullahoma around 1 p.m. Tuesday as the FBI arrived.

His attorney, Lee Davis, said there appeared to be no confrontation between Forrester and authorities.

“This is tragic for Mr. Forrester and his mother,” Davis said Wednesday. “But I’m also sorry that the officers who were just doing their job had to deal with this situation in this way. It’s not the result that any of us were working toward, and it’s tragic on all sides.”

Forrester’s case goes back to August 2014, when The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a cybertip from Google that an email address had uploaded nine images of suspected child pornography, court records show.
