A horrible record to break: Homicides in East Baton Rouge reach all …

With the death Thursday of a woman who was shot earlier this week by her boyfriend, the number of killings in East Baton Rouge Parish hit a record number, according to the FBI’s crime statistics and records maintained by The Advocate.

Authorities identified the victim as 34-year-old LaQuetra Pidgeon.

Police have said that Pidgeon was shot by her boyfriend, 29-year-old Daniel Johnson, who then shot and killed himself. Johnson died in Pidegon’s Banyan Trace Drive home and Pidgeon died in a hospital two days later.

Her death marks a record high of 97 homicides in one year for East Baton Rouge Parish with about three weeks still remaining before the end of 2017, according to records maintained by The Advocate.

The previous record for the most intentional and unjustified killings in the parish was 96 in 2007, according to the FBI’s uniform crime report statistics.

Virginia Beach Police hope for break in 1986 cold case homicide

Virginia Beach Police announced developments Tuesday in an unsolved homicide from 1986.

Police say they have used modern technology and the help of a lab to develop a sketch of a person of interest in the May 1986 homicide of 22-year-old Roberta Walls.

Walls’ body was found in the field behind Old Donation Elementary School with obvious signs of trauma from a violent assault.

Investigators say Roberta had last been seen alive the night before at Bayside Public Library across from the location where her body was found.

According to the Crime Solvers file on her case, Roberta was known to frequent the Aragona area of Virginia Beach and the Ocean View area of Norfolk.

Investigators sent DNA from the scene to a lab where the sketches were developed. The sketches show the person of interest at two possible ages — 25 and 55.

Four Reasons To Be Skeptical That Hennessey’s Venom F5 Will Break The 300 MPH Barrier

For a while now, the next big goal in the never-ending quest for speed has been to hit 300 mph in a road car. The race to break that barrier has been heating up lately, with Koenigsegg’s average 278 mph record-setting run in Nevada demonstrating just how close we are. Bugatti might have something to say about it too. But Texas car tuner John Hennessey is predicting that his latest supercar, the Venom F5, will hit 300 mph. There’s four important reasons why it may not: the tires.

Those are the car’s Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, which were originally developed specifically for the Bugatti Chiron. They have been tested to withstand the 261 mph limited top speed of that

Break in 1980s Middle Georgia cold case solves part of long-mysterious vanishing

The body of a man shot in the head and left on a remote dirt road between Forsyth and Gray 33 years ago has been identified as a missing Florida man.

The Telegraph has learned that a DNA analysis of the man’s remains, completed earlier this year, matched that of William Maholland, who was reported missing from Fort Lauderdale in June 1984.

Maholland, who was 28, is thought to have been killed in May of that year and dumped in Jones County, nearly 600 miles north of his hometown.

A fisherman found the body in the Oconee National Forest, a few miles southeast of Ga. 18 and U.S. 23. The fisherman had seen buzzards circling near Jarrell Plantation and Caney Creek Road.

Investigators suspected that the dead man — whose body was shirtless — was from out of town because of his Bermuda shorts and a belt with swordfish on it.

Bandits break car windows during busy weekend at Chesterfield park

CHESTERFIELD, Va – Chesterfield County Police are investigating a string of daytime break-ins at a busy Chesterfield park over the weekend.  Officials said thieves busted windows to several cars at Harry Daniel Park on Ironbridge Road and stole items.

“The investigation indicates that five vehicles had windows broken out; items were taken from 4 of those vehicles. The window of another vehicle was damaged, but entry to the vehicle was not gained. The incidents occurred at some point between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.,” a Chesterfield Police spokesperson said.

On Saturdays, Harry Daniel Park is packed with families and kids playing youth sports like football, soccer, and softball.

“Saturday was super busy. Saturday all the parking lots were filled up. I think they had three different games going on,” said Natoya Johnson, who regularly rides her bike at the park and was there Saturday.  “You don’t get the sense that this is someplace
