Body pulled from South Platte River, fears it could be missing Minnesota man last seen in December

Denver rescue crews pulled a body from the South Platte River Saturday afternoon, stoking fears it could be a man who was last seen early Dec. 15.

The body was found near the river just south of Interstate 25’s Alameda Avenue exit about 2:30 p.m. Saturday. It was discovered by a member of a volunteer search crew looking for 29-year-old Adam Gilbertson, who has been the focus of his family’s intense efforts to discover his whereabouts.

“The majority of the search party that set out today, don’t even know Adam,” said Mark Wonder, who was a member of a group of volunteers that set out Saturday morning to find any traces of Gilbertson. “We wanted to try to take the route that he may have gone, kind of retraced his steps.

The volunteers, family members and friends met near South Bannock Street and West Alameda and then fanned out to begin searching

Over 700 kids are abducted each day. According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, there were 466,900 entries for missing children (anyone under 18) in the U.S in 2014. That doesn’t count the cases of missing children who don’t get reported because

Where could they be? The struggle to cope when people go missing

The New Year’s resolution for many families and friends of missing persons is simply that: resolution.

“It’s terrible to think that we may never know,” said Diane Caldwell-Demmon, whose son Luther Demmon, 25, was last seen in Vancouver on Oct. 22.

“It’s very surreal. It’s like we’re in limbo. You don’t know what to do. You can’t fix it, you can’t solve it, there’s no closure, there’s no resolution.”

Thousands of people are reported missing to police across British Columbia every year. In 2017, the Vancouver Police Department received more than 5,000 reports — an average year.

The good news is that most cases get solved. But there are always some that don’t — leaving families feeling desperate, holding out hope that their loved one will return or at least be found, so there can be closure.

First it was “Groundhog Day.” Then it was “A League of Their Own.” Indianapolis Colts coach Chuck Pagano has had fun with movies as this lost season nears its end.

There will be a few more chances for him to sneak in some film references by the end of the year. And there are almost endless possibilities for applicable quotes. But since his taste has so far centered on early 1990s films, we have some suggestions.

The Washington Post’s investigation estimated hundreds of parents and caregivers were being prosecuted each year, and tallied 1,600 convictions since 2001. At least three such convictions have landed people on death row, according to a recent New Scientist article.
