Harrisonburg, Va. – The Harrisonburg Police Department (HPD) has arrested an individual in connection with their previous request for assistance.

Marvin Roy King, 50, of Harrisonburg was taken into custody on Monday, December 25 for outstanding warrants related to sex offenses.

HPD would like to thank the public for their assistance in the investigation and subsequent capture of this individual.

Harrisonburg Police Investigating Recent Thefts from Motor Vehicles

Harrisonburg Police Department Press Release:

Harrisonburg, Va. – The Harrisonburg Police Department is investigating recent thefts from motor vehicles throughout the city, which have occurred in multiple locations. In recent years, the vehicle break-ins have occurred primarily when owners leave their vehicles unlocked during night time hours.

Thieves are now targeting both locked and unlocked vehicles, using force when necessary to gain entry. Recent thefts have occurred between Wednesday, December 6 and Wednesday, December 13.

The thefts occurred at the Smithland Road Dog Park and in the area of South Dogwood Drive, in which valuables were taken from both locations.

Harrisonburg, VA – On November 6, officers with the Harrisonburg Police Department (HPD) responded to JC Penny at 1925 East Market Street for an assault call for service. A female employee had been pepper sprayed by a customer who was confronted about an alleged shoplifting.

The victim was medically evaluated and suffered temporary injury associated with the pepper spray. The suspect has been described as a black female approximately five feet five inches tall to five feet six inches tall.

The suspect is said to weigh approximately 220 pounds with her hair braided up on the back of her head in the shape of a “U.” The suspect was last seen fleeing from the north side of the store and getting into a small grey sedan, possibly a Honda or Kia. Harrisonburg Police investigating reports of shots fired

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) From the Harrisonburg Police Department:

Today at approximately 2:15 a.m., officers with HPD responded to a report of shots fired in the area of East Market Street and South Mason Street.

The Harrisonburg-Rockingham Emergency Communications Center received eight calls within a seven minute time frame from this incident.

Callers reported shots fired in the areas of East Market Street, Reservoir Street, and in the area of numerous residential buildings on the campus of JMU, along Martin Luther King Jr. Way.

Officers located firearm shell casings on East Market and Reservoir streets.

At this time, there are no reports of injuries or property damage and officers continue to investigate the incident.

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) Harrisonburg police are investigating reports of shots fired in the city early Monday morning.

At about 2:15 a.m., officers respond in the area of East Market Street and South Mason Street, right near downtown Harrisonburg.

The Harrisonburg-Rockingham Emergency Communications Center received eight calls within a seven-minute time frame about the incident.

Callers reported shots fired in the areas of East Market Street, Reservoir Street, and in the area of numerous residential buildings on the campus of JMU, along Martin Luther King Jr. Way.

Several people along the path of the reports told WHSV they were woken up in the middle of the night to sounds which some immediately recognized as gunshots and others described as “loud bangs.”

Officers found shell casings on East Market and Reservoir streets.

Police respond to stabbing on South Avenue in Harrisonburg

HARRISONBURG, Va (WHSV) UPDATE: From Harrisonburg Police Department (11:55pm)

Harrisonburg, VA – Officers with the Harrisonburg Police Department (HPD) are currently on the scene of a stabbing in the area of South Avenue, near South Main Street.

On October 25, at approximately 10:45 p.m., officers with HPD were dispatched to this area for a disorderly conduct call for service. Upon their arrival, one male subject was located with a stab wound and was immediately transported to Sentara RMH with life-threatening injuries.
Another subject believed to be involved has been detained at the scene.

HPD believes this incident to be isolated in nature with no additional threat to the public. Detectives with HPD’s Major Crimes Unit are currently investigating the incident.

Harrisonburg Police Investigate Homicide

Harrisonburg, Va. – The Harrisonburg Police Department (HPD) continues to investigate a fatal shooting that took place overnight.

On October 8, at approximately 12:45 a.m., officers with the Harrisonburg Police Department responded to Vibe Bistro and Hookah Lounge located at 1588 South Main Street for a reported gunshot call. The victim, Miguel Angel Meza Ramirez, 20, of Harrisonburg, was taken to Sentara Rockingham Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he was later pronounced dead.

The suspect, Wesley Cruz, 27, of Harrisonburg reportedly fled the scene prior to arrival by first responders. Cruz now has three outstanding felony warrants in relation to this investigation: first degree murder, possession of firearm by a convicted felon, and use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

Harrisonburg police investigate bomb threat at local business

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) — HPD Investigates Bomb Threat to Local Restaurant

The Harrisonburg Police Department has begun an investigation into a bomb threat that was called into a local restaurant.

People driving through Harrisonburg around lunch-time may have seen crime scene tape around Olive Garden, with people waiting outside in the parking lot.

According to Mary-Hope Vass, Harrisonburg spokeswoman, a man called a bomb threat in to the restaurant around 12:15 p.m.

Employees immediately evacuated all customers in the interest of public safety, and crews with the Harrisonburg Fire Department, Harrisonburg Police Department, and Harrisonburg Rescue Squad responded to assist.

For about one hour, the parking lot to Olive Garden and surrounding businesses was closed while police searched both inside and outside the business.

By 1:30 p.m., an all-clear was issued and the scene was cleared.

Detectives with the Harrisonburg Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit will continue an investigation into the incident.
