Months before she was killed in Atlanta, foster girl told police she was raped in Columbus – Columbus Ledger

A 17-year-old girl found shot to death in Atlanta on Sept. 21 told police three months before she went missing that she was raped at an apartment in north Columbus.

The Ledger-Enquirer received the 13-page case report after submitting an open records request to the Columbus Police Department.

According to the report, Denetta Franks was a ward of the state who was staying at the Holiday Inn Express, located at 7336 Bear Lane, until she went missing Sept. 7, never to return again. Her name was redacted out of the case report regarding the rape, but she was identified in another police report on the same incident obtained by the newspaper.

On Sept. 21, Franks’ body was found in Atlanta in the middle of Hortense Place Northwest near the intersection of Florence Place Northwest. The girl’s family recognized a facial reconstruction circulated by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children,

Lancaster teen killed in fatal pedestrian struck incident in Maryland

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, MD.– An 18-year-old Lancaster girl is dead after being struck by a vehicle on Sunday.

Maria Fisher, 18, of Eagles View in Lancaster County, was identified as the victim in the incident.

On October 1 at about 6:20 a.m., officers were called to the intersection of Baltimore Avenue and Campus Drive for the report of a pedestrian collision.

Fisher was found in critical condition and was taken to a hospital where she died a short time later.

A preliminary investigation has revealed that Fisher attempted to cross the northbound lanes of Baltimore Avenue when she was struck by an SUV.

The driver, who was not hurt in the incident, was not hurt.

Investigators are working to determine the circumstances of the collision including whether or not Fisher was in a crosswalk.

Missing Person, Man Killed By Tree In South Jersey – Galloway, NJ …

Residents of the same South Jersey town were dealing with tragedy and fear on Thursday.

An 85-year-old man was killed Thursday after a tree landed on top of him in Mullica Township, police said.

On the same day, a 36-year-0ld woman was reported missing five days after she was last seen at her Mullica Township home on Saturday.

The tree incident was reported at 9:12 a.m., when a 911 call was made by the victim’s wife on Baremore Road in Mullica Township, Atlantic County, police said.

The caller reported that her husband was cutting tree in their yard; the tree fell on top of her husband, rendering him unconscious and unresponsive, police said.

Officers responded and located the victim; Atlanticare Emergency Medical Services arrived and determined the victim, Ronald Loatwall, had died, police said. The Elwood Fire Department, along with the Mullica Township Department of Public Works, also responded to aid in the rescue of

EVERETT — Forty years ago the search for her name began with the discovery of her death.

Berry pickers came across the young woman’s body Aug. 14, 1977, in a wooded area in south Everett.

She was wearing a pastel, striped tank top, cut-off jean shorts and size seven blue Mr. Sneekers tennis shoes. A Timex watch with a yellow face was on her left wrist, the leather band fastened at the second-to-last notch. In the pockets of her shorts were 17 cents, a partial pack of Marlboros and an empty plastic bag.

She was brunette, tan and tall, maybe 5-feet, 10-inches. A forensic anthropologist later estimated she was between 15 and 21, likely 16 to 19.

The medical examiner dug seven bullets out of her head. Her killer would later tell detectives he wrapped a bungee cord around her neck when she turned down his advances. She urinated in the front seat of
