Belfast Man to Prison for Sexually Assaulting Young Girl

BELFAST, Maine (WABI) – A Belfast man will spend a year-and-a-half in prison for raping a 13-year-old girl.

28-year-old Christopher Farrar pleaded guilty last week to gross sexual assault.

He was arrested in August after a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Investigators say they found an explicit photo of the girl sent to Farrah through Facebook.

The girl’s social media profile said she was 16.

Police say Farrar and the girl both admitted to having sex.

Once Farrar is out of prison, he’ll be on probation and can have no contact with children under 18 and has to undergo sex offender treatment.

Vacaville man nets prison time on child pornography charge

FAIRFIELD — A Vacaville man convicted of possessing child pornography was sentenced Monday to two years in prison.

Tevis R. Gunter, 27, was arrested in November 2016 after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children alerted Vacaville police that someone in Vacaville was downloading child pornography off the Internet.

The local investigation of Gunter’s online video repository found scenes showing men sexually assaulting boys around 4 years old, and a man sexually assaulting and sodomizing a girl around 7 years old.

Court records reflect that before moving to Vacaville, Gunter was linked to crimes in Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Kentucky that referenced a string of alleged child molestations in three of the states.

After 28 Years in Prison, a Rare Plea Deal Frees a Connecticut Man …

Alford pleas, however, are exceptionally rare, composing only 6 percent of all the guilty pleas in state and federal courts, according to a study published in 2009. While some legal experts have assailed them as a patent violation of due-process rights, others have described them as a psychological salve: They allow defendants to maintain their innocence even as they bow to the reality that they would likely be convicted at a trial.

But then there are defendants like Mr. Harris, who entered his plea decades after his conviction and only, as he put it, “under duress.” Across the country, different prosecutorial agencies take different positions when facing cases that might be marred by a wrongful conviction. Some, like the Brooklyn district attorney’s office, have decided that the most just option is simply to reverse a bad conviction and wipe a defendant’s slate entirely clean. But
