What better forensic science can reveal about the JFK assassination

Clifford Spiegelman, Texas AM University

(THE CONVERSATION) Popular television shows such as the “Law Order,” “CSI” and “NCIS” franchises glorify forensic science as a magical, near-flawless tool for identifying criminals. Not surprisingly, Hollywood’s depiction of forensic science needs a reality makeover.

The “CSI effect” is well-documented. As long ago as 2009, scientists with the National Research Council noted that no forensic method (except for nuclear DNA analysis) can reliably and consistently connect evidence to a specific individual or source. More recently, President Obama’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology reported that pattern-matching forensic procedures are unreliable. The Innocence Project has exonerated many hundreds of wrongfully convicted people, and bad forensic science was found to be a contributing factor in about half of the original cases.

These problems are not new. Six years before the National Research Council’s 2009 report, I was on a panel of the

Experts reveal Making a Murderer killer Steven Avery will ‘die in prison’

“At first glance, it looks like it has merit, but it’s nonsense,” he says, noting that at least SIX people (including Steven Avery) had access to that shared computer.

“Which of those people used or viewed those images? It would be impossible to come up with that information,” he concludes.

New forensic testing has also been put forward, questioning the amount of DNA the crime lab alleges Avery left on Teresa’s SUV. Kathleen Zellner claims to have conducted an experiment that disproves this, although Ken remains unconvinced. “Did [Kathleen’s] experiment replicate the conditions at the time? I doubt it,” he says.

Police Reveal What Madeleine McCann Would Look Like Now

On May 3, 2007, 3-year-old Madeleine McCann of England went missing from her parents’ apartment while on holiday in Praia da Luz, Portugal. The sleepy resort town on the Algarve coast soon turned into the center of an international tragedy, and police are still looking for answers 10 years after her disappearance.

More than £11 million has been spent on the search for Madeleine, and in September 2017, British police were given an additional £154,000 to continue the investigation, which is known as Operation Grange.

A Home Office spokesperson told BBC, “Following an application from the Metropolitan police, the Home Office has confirmed funding for Operation Grange until the end of March 2018. As with all applications, the resources required are reviewed regularly and careful consideration is given before any funding is allocated.”

There have been about 8,500 reported sightings of Madeleine McCann over the years, and though none have

How much is President Donald Trump worth? And is he or anyone in his administration profiting from their positions? Reveal is teaming up with the Center for Public Integrity to investigate those questions.

We’ve created a database listing all the assets that members of his administration have disclosed. Now we’re digging through those documents to see whether there are any conflicts of interest. We’ve posted the information online, and we’re asking the public to take part in our investigation. Citizen sleuths already have uncovered some leads. By crowdsourcing this project, we will be able to monitor whether any policy changes end up benefiting members of the president’s team.
