Investigator’s lawsuit alleges ‘swift boat’ plot to undermine Northwestern Innocence Project

A private investigator at the center of one of the most controversial murder cases in Illinois history is doubling down on allegations that a cabal of pro-police lawyers and advocates conspired to torpedo efforts by former Northwestern University professor David Protess to expose wrongful convictions.

Paul Ciolino, who obtained Alstory Simon’s sensational confession to a 1982 double murder that led to the exoneration of death row inmate Anthony Porter, filed a defamation lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court alleging his reputation and career were destroyed by the “swift boat” plot to undermine Protess’ work.

The 66-page complaint largely mirrors a counterclaim filed by Ciolino in 2016 in an ongoing federal lawsuit filed by Simon. The counterclaim was thrown out last year by a federal judge who ruled Ciolino’s allegations were too tangential to the underlying case.

The lawsuit filed this week, however, contains details about the alleged conspiracy to attack Protess, including allegations

taylor swift, Tiffany Haddish

There’s at least one part of Old Taylor that isn’t dead, and that’s the part that can cook. Following her highly educational dinner with Barbra Streisand, Taylor Swift 2.0’s newest BFF Tiffany Haddish revealed that the superstar hasn’t lost an ounce of her top-notch hosting skills during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

According to the Girls Trip star, the two hit it off when they both appeared on SNL, Haddish as the host and Swift as the musical guest. Afterwards, Swift excitedly approached the comedian and invited her over for dinner — a borderline-starstruck move that is all too reminiscent of Swift’s “Tim McGraw” days. Haddish agreed, under one condition: “Look, if I come over, you gotta make me some barbecue chicken, some potato salad and a brisket,” she mandated.

Ever the agreeable hostess, the “Gorgeous” singer accepted the terms and, true to form, exceeded expectations. “First off, Taylor can cook, OK? She can cook,” Haddish yelled. “The chicken was bomb! And she made

Ed Sheeran, taylor swift

Taylor Swift loves her friends, a whole lot, and tons and tons of words have been written about her famous friendships, from the Squad to Selena to her years-long camaraderie with Ed Sheeran.

They’ve inspired lots of her musical notes and performances, too. She gets by with a little help from said friends, and even worked a couple of them into reputation: James Reynolds, the adorable daughter of Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, offers a cute intro to “Gorgeous,” and Sheeran shows up on “End Game” with Future.

At iHeartRadio’s Jingle Ball on December 1, Swift brought out Sheeran to perform the track with her, and the buds were clearly thrilled to be hitting the stage together once more.

kanye west, taylor swift

In one of the biggest moments of Taylor Swift and Kanye West’s exhausting feud, the pop star wrote on Instagram last year that she “would very much like to be excluded from this narrative, one that I have never asked to be a part of, since 2009.” But with the release of her sixth album Reputation on Friday (November 10), Swift shovels even more into that narrative — and may actually give herself the final word.

“This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things,” the album’s third-to-last track (and also Swift’s lucky No. 13), is a snub to a backstabber who made Swift roll up her welcome mat and vow to never be the fool again. Sure, betrayal and disloyalty are things Swift’s sung about for years, but there are a few explicit clues that hint Kanye is the target of her latest warring words.

She begins by describing the glitzy gatherings

Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, taylor swift

Taylor Swift’s new album, Reputation, is chock full of star-studded collaborations with Ed Sheeran, Future, Jack Antonoff, and the child of Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively.

Wait. What?

The intro of “Gorgeous” features the voice of a little one, and that tiny human that announces the title of the Reputation cut in the most adorable way is James Reynolds. People got their paws on the Reputation liner notes and confirm that the “baby intro” for the eighth track was “voiced” (or, more accurately, cooed) by Lively and Reynolds’s oldest.

Lively and Reynolds have been pals with Swift for ages, so this isn’t toosurprising: They frequently show up in the friend-filled snapshots Swift shares, and she dressed up in a straight-off-the-Deadpool-set costume for Halloween last year.

Still, that’s a hell of a gift from Auntie Tay to little James, and a super cute surprise we didn’t see coming.

If you’ve ever harbored a serious crush on someone, you’ll likely find Taylor Swift’s new song, “Gorgeous,” to be extremely relatable. In the latest release off Reputation, due out November 10, your girl is singing about a love-hate relationship. Why does she love him? Because he’s gorgeous! And why does hate him? Also because he’s gorgeous! The struggle is real.

In short, this person is so attractive, “it actually hurts.” Tay gets nervous around him and “can’t say anything to [his] face.” He left her speechless, so she turned everything she wanted to say to him into a song, because that’s what Grammy-winning pop stars do best.

Whether or not you’re into “Gorgeous” on your first listen, you can trust that it’ll get stuck in your head just as “Look What You Made Me Do” and “…Ready For It?” did. Fans, meanwhile, wasted zero time dissecting these new lyrics and speculating wildly about the lucky guy Tay’s

Redemption, taylor swift

In years past, Taylor Swift has sent home-wrapped Christmas gifts to her fans and invited them to her apartment for intimate album listening parties. But that was back when she was the “Old Taylor,” who, in case you haven’t heard, is dead. Even so, Taylor’s love for her fans hasn’t diminished in the slightest, if her recent actions are any indication.

Last week, Taylor surprised a British fan named Lara by commenting on her Instagram live stream. But that was just the beginning. On Wednesday (October 11), the pop star went to Lara’s house for a surprise visit that left the adorable fan thoroughly shook. Recounting the story on Instagram, Lara explained that Taylor Nation got in touch with her last week and asked for her address, explaining that they wanted to send her a package.

“I was sitting on my windowsill, and I was just waiting for the package to arrive,” Lara explained. “And
