We Have Set Up a System to Sex Traffic American Children

Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio) introduced legislation in 2017 to amend an antiquated 1996 law that was ostensibly enacted to protect freedom of expression on the Internet, but, as Sen. Portman’s bill describes, allowed website operators (most prominently, Backpage ) to facilitate the sale of sex with victims of sex trafficking. In many of these cases, the victims are children.

The frequency of child sex abuse is a true epidemic. Since at least 2000, the U.S. Department of Justice has reported that some 67 percent of all sexual assaults are committed against victims under 18 years old.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services reports confirmed child sexual abuse cases number approximately 58,000 per year in recent years.

Unreported child sexual assaults are estimated at 80

FISA Court’s Secrecy Threatens to Subsume Our Open Court System

Things appeared to be going swimmingly for Keith Gartenlaub, a former Boeing engineer whose appeal of a 2015 conviction for possession of child porn was heard before the Ninth Circuit Monday, December 4. The hearing focused on whether the child porn should ever have been discovered; Gartenlaub’s lawyers argued that because child porn is not foreign intelligence, those files went beyond the scope of a warrant authorized by the secret FISA Court back in 2014.

FBI conducted the search in question—a sneak and peek search of his home over several days, during which a number of computer devices were secretly imaged—under FISA’s physical search provision, not the better known Section 702. But because it pertains to the use of data collected under FISA for criminal prosecutions, any decision in this case might affect back door searches currently conducted under that statute as well.

“The only thing the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance

Alert system up and running for Plainfield residents

PLAINFIELD – Plainfield residents can now sign up with an alert system that will give them information on a variety of real-time events, from active shooter incidents to community happenings.

The Plainfield Police Department recently signed up with the Nixle Alerts company to give residents localized information as needed, Capt. Mario Arriaga said.

“It’s about going above and beyond,” he said. “With this system we can, in a matter of seconds, send alerts to a targeted area – or the whole town – regarding anything from a missing person and severe traffic updates to hurricane warnings or a community basketball game.”

The system will cost $3,500 for the first year and can be accessed by residents through the department’s webpage. Before the system was implemented, police had to rely on media outlets to get breaking news out to the town.

“We really didn’t have

We must fix the tribal lands gap in our AMBER Alert system

Ashlynne Mike’s life ended too soon.

Her favorite color was yellow, and she enjoyed playing music for her friends and family.  She was a kindhearted soul who had enormous potential.  She was 11 years old.

After school on Monday, May 2, 2016, she and her brother played by the local bus stop, never considering the horrors that would occur over the next few hours.  A stranger approached the children. He managed to lure both of them into his vehicle. He violently abused Ashlynne and then slaughtered her, and left her brother to fend for himself in the wilderness.  She died alone, forcibly estranged from the family and community that loved her.

Ashlynne, a member of the Navajo Nation, might still be alive if not for a gap in our AMBER Alert system.

Across the nation, when children go missing, local authorities frequently use the AMBER Alert program, a voluntary partnership between broadcasters, transportation and

McLaren Bay Region installs newborn safety system

The McLaren Bay Region Family BirthPlace recently installed a new and innovative Infant Safety System developed by CertaScan Technologies.

The proprietary system allows the hospital to capture high resolution newborn footprints which can be used for precise identification in situations like an abduction, lost baby or natural disaster.

The Newborn Safety System — which uses LiveScan Technology — has garnered the attention and praise from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and has been included as a recommendation for hospitals in its most recent Infant Security Guidelines.

The system is entirely safe for use on babies and provides outstanding footprint quality, officials stated. Nurses prefer the system because it is easy to use, seamless to adopt and replaces the time consuming and messy ink and paper method. The digital foot prints
