Retired special education teacher from Steger charged with possessing child porn

A Steger man who recently retired as a special education teacher has been charged with possession of child pornography, according to the Will County sheriff’s office.

Michael P. Levin, 62, was arrested Tuesday and charged with four counts of possession of child pornography, the sheriff said in a news release.

The office said that Levin had worked as a special education teacher at Speed S.E.J.A. in Chicago Heights for more than 39 years and had recently retired.

Will County detectives continued an investigation that had started last October after a tip was received by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, according to the release.

Former special education teacher charged with child pornography possession – Chicago Sun

A former south suburban special education teacher was arrested Tuesday on multiple child pornography charges.

Michael Levin, 62, is charged with four felony counts of possession of child pornography, according to a statement from the Will County Sheriff’s Office.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children contacted the sheriff’s office in October after a tip led them to Levin, the sheriff’s office said. Local investigators then took over the case.

Detectives met with Levin at his Steger home on Feb. 8, at which point Levin was cooperative and let them search the home and his electronic devices, the sheriff’s office said. Investigators found more than 1,000 videos and images of child pornography during their forensic computer investigation.

Levin recently retired and formerly worked for more than 39 years as a special education teacher for the SPEED Special Education Joint Agreement District 802 in Chicago Heights, the sheriff’s office said.

A representative for SPEED declined

Trial set for former Capitol Hill teacher facing child porn charge

A former Seattle Academy science teacher facing a federal charge of possessing child pornography is set to go to trial in May.

Gabriel Cronin was fired from the Capitol Hill private school — after having worked there for more than a decade — following his arrest in late November.

Acting on a tip from Cronin’s cousin, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children forwarded that information to the Seattle Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children Unit. Cronin’s cousin reportedly told investigators the former science teacher and robotics program leader is addicted, and she was compelled to report him due to his profession, according to the complaint filed in U.S. District Court by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Cronin allegedly told investigators he uses The Onion Router to find child pornography and then deletes it afterward, the complaint states.

A forensic examination of Cronin’s work laptop revealed hundreds of thumbnail files, the complaint

CSPD outlines process to arrest teacher accused of possessing child porn

The Colorado Springs Police Department issued a news release Thursday outlining and explaining why it took more than a year to arrest a teacher at Russell Middle School, who is suspected of sexual exploitation of a child.

Police arrested 44-year-old Mike Hedges on Jan. 26. He was released from the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center on a $25,000 bond Tuesday.

In the arrest affidavit, it showed the police first received a tip from the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children on Aug. 31, 2016 from Synchronoss Technologies, which provides cloud storage.

That led some to ask the question why it took more nearly 16 months from the tip until arrest.

Police said released the following timeline of events in a news release sent to local news outlets Thursday afternoon, which read:

“On August 31, 2016, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) sent a CyberTip to CSPD indicating five images of child pornography were
