In These States, Missing Persons Cases Are Piling Up

“)};

Have you ever wondered which states have the most missing people? Huffington Post provided data on that topic as the result of a study. Here we’ll highlight the 15 states with the dubious distinction of having most open missing persons cases per 100,000 people.

1. Alaska

  • More than 10 missing persons per 100,000 people
  • A runner vanished into thin air during the Mount Marathon race in 2012.

Maybe it’s because the state of Alaska holds such a vast amount of wilderness, but it has a rate of missing persons almost twice the national average. The state also holds the record of the highest percentage of missing people who are never found. There is even a section of the state Read more at: https://www.cheatsheet.com/culture/in-these-states-missing-persons-cases-are-piling-up.html/?a=viewall

Twitter Thinks You’re Officially An Adult If You Asked For Any Of These Gifts For Christmas

A few Christmases ago, I asked my mom for a Shark vacuum cleaner, and it’s still the best gift I have ever received. Celebrating getting a vacuum for Christmas means I am now a grown-ass woman — and it’s not the only gift that signals adulthood. According to Twitter, if you asked for any of these practical gift ideas, you’re officially an adult, just in case there was any doubt. When you were a kid, gifts that weren’t toys — like socks — were likely met with disdain. However, when you start adulting, gifts of silverware, bed sheets, and vacuum cleaners are the stuff that dreams are made of. People on Twitter can relate to that special holiday when you finally cross the threshold into adulthood by being grateful for a gift you actually need.

You know you’re officially an adult when

These Mysterious Disappearances Will Keep You Up at Night

Even in our interconnected world, people go missing every day. Some never make it home, and others leave bizarre clues as to where they went. On average, 90,000 people go missing in the United States at any given time, according to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System. According to the National Incidence Studies of Missing, Abducted, Runaway and Thrownaway Children, of the 797,500 children reported missing in a one-year period, 203,900 were abducted by family members and 58,200 were abducted by non-relatives. A total of 115 got abducted by a stranger. Some of the stories range from odd to insane, and we found some of the most mysterious ones.

Chuck Pagano’s groundhog day rant could be followed by these 8 …

Indianapolis Colts’ coach Chuck Pagano describes the season as ‘Groundhog Day’.
Clark Wade/IndyStar

First it was “Groundhog Day.” Then it was “A League of Their Own.” Indianapolis Colts coach Chuck Pagano has had fun with movies as this lost season nears its end.

There will be a few more chances for him to sneak in some film references by the end of the year. And there are almost endless possibilities for applicable quotes. But since his taste has so far centered on early 1990s films, we have some suggestions.

“A Few Good Men” from 1992:

Let’s ID These Broken Car Parts To Help Find A Hit-And-Run Driver

The city of Denton, Texas police reached out to me earlier today because they need our help. A vehicle hit a pedestrian, and then took off before the driver or the car could be identified. The wreck did damage the vehicle, which shed some shattered bits of light and trim at the scene. Now police would like our help to identify what kind of car these pieces came from.

We’ve done these before, and we’ve done them well. There’s no better online community than the Jalopnik Hive Mind to figure this kind of thing out, but this one looks particularily tricky.

The parts are really quite small—some just shards, if we’re honest. But I bet there’s just enough here to figure this out.

The largest piece is

These Innocence Project lawyers dedicated a Bob Dylan song to their clients freed from prison

A group of lawyers working to free innocent prisoners has covered Bob Dylan’s I Shall Be Released in dedication to its clients, and the results are pretty moving.

The California Innocence Project, which has freed 27 people with a total of 300 prison years between them, offers pro bono services to clients it believes have been wrongly convicted.

The group took to the stage at this year’s Innocence Network Conference to perform the 1968 hit in front of hundreds of other Innocence Network lawyers from around the US.

The stirring performance is enhanced with the images of its exonerated clients, and the length of time spent in jail for each case – from five years to as many as 36 years behind bars.

Since its birth in 1999, the organisation has also exonerated 157 people from death row.

It is part of the Innocence Network and
